Prerequisite - Welding Fundamentals and 3G welding certification. Must have permission from instructor prior to registration.
Focuses on the techniques used for welding pipe. The shielded metal arc (SMAW) welding process is used to perform practice welds on pipe diameters from 2-12 inches. Basic pipe-fitting practices will be demonstrated using butt weld and socket weld fittings to progress through learning to weld pipe in horizontal and vertical positions. One-on-one coaching, welding demonstrations and welding videos will be used to illustrate the techniques the student must follow to successfully pass the 6G qualification test. All Pipe Welding Qualification testing is done in accordance with ASME Section IX Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code Steel. (ASME SMAW certification)
This is an ACCELERATED 8 week class that meets for 6 hours on both Saturday and Sunday for a total of 12 hours per weekend.
