ClassGraphic The Pharmacy Technician program is a dynamic and engaging educational experience designed to prepare aspiring pharmacy technicians with the knowledge, skills and hands-on training necessary for success as a pharmacy technician. This program combines rigorous coursework with practical, real-world application to prepare students for a rewarding career in pharmacy. 

Program Highlights:
1.   Comprehensive Curriculum: The well-rounded curriculum covers essential topics such as pharmaceutical calculations, drug classifications, dosage forms, medication safety, and pharmacy law and ethics. Students will also gain proficiency in prescription processing and compounding techniques.

2.   Hands-On Training: Through a simulated pharmacy environment, students have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. This hands-on experience helps build confidence and ensures that graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the workplace.

3.   Experienced Faculty: The dedicated faculty members bring a wealth of knowledge from their years of experience as pharmacy technicians. They provide personalized attention, mentorship, and guidance to help students thrive academically and professionally.

4.   Externship Opportunities: Students will participate in externships at reputable pharmacies and healthcare facilities. This invaluable real-world experience allows students to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and various healthcare systems.

5.   Certification Preparation: The program is designed to prepare students the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). Achieving certification is a significant milestone that enhances employment opportunities and earning potential.

Class is held as follows:
  • In-person class Saturday 9/6/25-11/22/25 from 8:00am-3:30pm
  • 13-20 hours of required online work each week, outside of scheduled classroom time
  • Clinicals start the week of November 30, 2025 and run thru January 31, 2026. 24 hours a week required, minimum. Class will not meet outside of clinical times. No Clinicals 11/23-11/29 or 12/31-1/3/26 due to school closure
  • Clinical sites and schedule TBD
  • Last day of class is in person, on campus:  February 2, 2026 from 8:00am-4:30pm-attendance is mandatory.
Prerequisite: Attend Pharmacy Technician Orientation Session at BRCC.  You may register for the orientation here

A working knowledge of Algebra is essential for this class.
Required math and reading proficiency assessment can be taken here.
Instructor will follow-up with test results.  Students must pass prior to enrollment but can take test more than once.

Notice

Please read:  A high school diploma or GED is required for registration of the program. Student must pass a math and reading proficiency test. To ensure success in the Pharmacy Technician program and to maintain high standards of patient safety, proficiency in the English language is required. Pharmacy technicians must be able to accurately read, interpret, and communicate critical information, including medical terminology, drug names, and dosage instructions. Student must pass a drug screen and background check (information provided during class) and be up to date on immunizations prior to clinical rotations. Any criminal convictions may hinder the opportunity to obtain a Virginia Board of Pharmacy license. If there are any questions regarding past criminal convictions, please refer to the Board of Pharmacy on your eligibility. Background check, drug screen, immunizations and Virginia Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee license fee are not included and will be paid by the student. Books and one exam fee are included in the price of tuition. Must be 18 years or older at the time of registration. Following the 12 weeks of class, 160 hours of experiential learning is mandatory.
