A high school diploma or GED is required for registration of the program. Student must pass a math and reading proficiency test. To ensure success in the Pharmacy Technician program and to maintain high standards of patient safety, proficiency in the English language is required. Pharmacy technicians must be able to accurately read, interpret, and communicate critical information, including medical terminology, drug names, and dosage instructions. Student must pass a drug screen and background check (information provided during class) and be up to date on immunizations prior to clinical rotations. Any criminal convictions may hinder the opportunity to obtain a Virginia Board of Pharmacy license. If there are any questions regarding past criminal convictions, please refer to the Board of Pharmacy on your eligibility. Background check, drug screen, immunizations and Virginia Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee license fee are not included and will be paid by the student. Books and one exam fee are included in the price of tuition. Must be 18 years or older at the time of registration. Following the 12 weeks of class, 160 hours of experiential learning is mandatory.
