Beekeeping: Getting Started

ClassGraphic The honeybee population nationwide has been devastated by infestations of “mites” and numerous diseases; however, with proper care, honeybees can be successfully maintained. In this class you will learn about honeybee colony characteristics, required equipment, management techniques and practices, and honeybee disease and parasitic mites.  Time will be provided for bee yard hands-on experiences in addition to scheduled classes.  

Attendance at Shenandoah Valley Beekeepers Association meeting IS required: Two Thursdays to be determine early spring; meeting location provided during first class.  

Textbook is optional
