Prerequisite - Fundamentals of Fabrication, Machine Tools I & II, Milling and Turning Between Centers.  

This intermediate level machining course explains the operation of the manual lathe that will include:  Turning Safety, Lathe Controls, Single-Point Threading, Tapping, Fits and Tolerances, Measurement, Process Control, Tooling and Lathe Set-up.  Proper set-up and use of a four-jaw chuck will be demonstrated and explained.  Many lathe operations use tooling with carbide inserts, but a Machinist must know the proper sequence for grinding the surfaces of a lathe tool, applying the proper rake angles.  Tool grinding is discussed and demonstrated.
