This class is designed to introduce a student to the world of Machine Tools and Machining.  Students will learn about precision measuring tools and how to use them.  How to obtain precise measurements, how to read and understand mechanical drawings, and what tolerances are and how a Machinist goes about making a part that will be within the specific dimensions.  Machine Shop safety and safe practices will be discussed and demonstrated.  The types of Machine Tools that are used to create complex components in industry and how they work will be covered here also.  Cutting speeds and feed rates for Milling and Turning operations will also be discussed.  The NIMS Machining credential program will be explained and the first NIMS project the students will make will be reviewed.  There will be a NIMS online quiz (Measurement, Materials and Safety) the students will take that qualifies the student for a NIMS credential.  Class fee includes book.

This class will meet in the assigned classroom (T114) on our main campus, in the Technology Building.
