« back to classes page
Hiking opportunities abound in the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains! Through games and activities, you will develop skills in using a compass, map reading, and fire building. You will also develop an Independent Learning Project that highlights a discovery you made during the week. The week will feature two hikes in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The first hike will take place at a local destination like Humpback Rocks or Jones Run Falls.  The second will include an overnight ‘on the trail’ at Loft Mountain Campground as we hike a favorite section of the Appalachian Trail, located in the Shenandoah National Park.  We will follow the conservation principles as defined by the national organization “Leave No Trace”. As a bonus, you will receive a certificate in outdoor ethics from Leave No Trace as part of this exciting hiking experience. Get out and enjoy the great outdoors!
