Beekeeping: The Sustainable Apiary - Summer

Learn from the bees! Allow your confidence to soar in this advanced beekeeping class in an off campus, hands-on teaching apiary with 50 colonies.  You will use Langstroth hive bodies, Honeyflow hive, the Nat Hive and possibly a long-lang.  Activities will include setting goals for and preparing a mating yard, grafting for post solstice queens (Doolittle Method), placing grafted Q cells, honey harvest and extraction, bottling, labeling, and checking for eggs from grafted queens.

Please read:  This class meets off campus, at Mary's apiaries, located at 10 Mt. Joy Lane, Raphine, VA 24472. PLEASE NOTE: For safety purposes, please wear light colored clothing, especially light colored socks, and keep hair tied back. Epipen strongly recommended for students with possible allergic reaction to bee stings.
