Ready to practice basic jazz technique and fundamentals? Move to your favorite musical tunes (Mamma Mia, Chicago, Disney on Broadway, West Side Story, Cats) to warm-up with basic steps inspired by jazz pioneers Fosse and Luigi. Turn, jump, leap, learn traveling steps across the stage and create group formations of synchronous movement. Indulge in a bit of non-verbal acting, character work and relationship-building with the music, involving these moving dynamics: sharp, smooth, slinky! A good chunk of class will embrace Broadway choreography, to present at Friday’s open session. Dancers will learn their unique roles in familiar musical productions; costumes/props may be brought from home to rehearsals and used during Friday’s musical theater show.
Class will be held in the Fine Arts Center, Room V135.
