Medication Aide Spring 2024

Medication Aides are trained to prepare for safe administration of medications to clients in assisted living facilities.  The course teaches basic pharmacology and the proper procedure for preparing, administering, maintaining and documenting medications. Students are also taught to facilitate client self-administration and assist with medication administration.

Prerequisites:
 
  • Prior to course registration, student must provide documentation of successful completion of a staff training program in direct client care approved by the Department of Social Services, a nursing education program or an approved nurse aide education program.
  • A TB risk form is required before attending class.  (Proof of 2 step TB Test in the last 12 months or the TB shot in the last 2 years is also accepted.)
  • Current immunization record including COVID and flu vaccines.  
  • Signed "Statement on Vaccines" Form.
  • You also must register for and attend a Healthcare Orientation at BRCC:  https://bit.ly/BRCCOrientation
Note: The Virginia Board of Nursing requires students that successfully completed a program to apply for a provisional license prior to taking the certification exam.  (Cost $50-not included in tuition)

Certification exam fee is not included in tuition.

Classes are held 9:00am - 1:30pm - Tuesday-Friday from April 23, 2024-May 10, 2024
Classes are held in person, on campus and online via Zoom.
