Why is the Shamrock St. Patrick's symbol? Who was Cuchulainn? What famous Queen was killed by being hit by a wheel of cheese? What was "The Celtic Tiger?" What are "The Troubles?" And are they over? What's the difference between Northern Ireland and Ireland? What was Bloody Sunday? What is the IRA? Why do so many famous writers come from Ireland? We will discuss and answer these and many other questions about the history and culture of this tiny island to which 80 million people (36 million in America alone!) claim an ancestral connection. We will read stories, poems and daily Irish newspapers to get a sense of what the Irish are up to today.
