GO Virginia Cyber Security Grant

If you are interested in participating in this grant program, please complete the application. For more information, email Dan O’Brien at OBrienD@brcc.edu

Selected individuals can get cyber security training for $300, thanks to a $200,000 GO Virginia Cyber Security grant awarded to Blue Ridge Community College. The goal of the grant is to train and employ 50 Tier I Cyber Security Analysts by July 2020, and a local commercial company partner plans to offer jobs in Harrisonburg or Waynesboro to successful graduates based on customer demand.

Anyone interested in pursuing a job in cyber security in the Shenandoah Valley may apply, and the ideal candidate has some information technology or security education and/or experience. Military veterans are encouraged to apply.

The program will include a security review course, CompTIA Security+ Exam, Cybrary online training, and on-the-job training, and will take approximately three months to complete. Classes and training will be held at BRCC, and on-the-job training will occur at the private company’s offices in the cities of Harrisonburg and Waynesboro.

The program will be limited to three groups of 15-20 students, and the first group will begin the program in fall 2018. This is a competitive program and cohort members will be selected based on qualifications and ability to commit to the program. Individuals who are currently employed, or in college, are eligible.
