Prerequisite - Welding Fundamentals or previous welding experience is recommended.
This class focuses on welding and fabrication skills used in building welded metal projects. Students will create a working drawing from a shop project, complete with a bill of materials, factor in total costs and weight of their project. They will cut and tack-weld all components together, and make final welds to complete the job. Welding safety using various welding processes (GTAW, GMAW and SMAW) and safe shop practices will be discussed and demonstrated. Training on all types of weld shop equipment will be included. Students will create welded projects to keep and take home as well as performing an AWS GMAW Welder Qualification test in various positions.
Required for class:
- Hard-soled, 8" lace up leather boots (steel-toe preferred but not required).
- Leather Work Gloves
- Clear Safety Glasses (ANZI Z87.1)
- Hybrid Welding Jacket (Leather Sleeves and Fire Retardant Chest)
- Heavy arc welding gloves and a pair of lighter, leather work gloves for oxy-acetylene and GTAW welding
- Internet access and a working email address to complete online homework assignments
